Toronto is a hub for innovation. With the best accelerators, Innovation Centres and so many people pushing envelopes, Toronto has quickly grown into a global tech leader for technology, AI, and blockchain. With elite startups like Coinsquare, Collage, DarwinAI, DNAstack, Ritual Technologies Inc. and Shorcan DCN all in the running for this award, we were honoured and humbled to be named “Best Tech Startup."
Sam Kawtharani and Derek Manuge started Corl to tackle one of the biggest issues facing startup founders: funding. Funding rounds are the bane of small businesses and while founders pitch purely for funds, founders’ top financing options often see an opportunity to own and control. In the past year we’ve come face to face with hundreds of business owners from around the world who have let us know Corl is needed, so to have that sentiment echoed in Toronto in front of 250 tech peers, enthusiasts, entrepreneurs, and thought leaders, reinforces our vision.
“As the number of startups increases in the Toronto area, so does the innovation happening in the city,” said Mandy Walker, Director of Marketing at Tech in Motion and Motion Recruitment Partners. “The Timmy Awards were created to elevate local leaders like Corl that make an impact from the beginning.”
50% judges and 50% community, this award is a testament to our supporters as well as our innovative product aimed to disrupt the market. Using machine-learning, our funding platform provides businesses with an expedited investment decision and leverages data to better equip startups for success. Corl provides growth capital to businesses seeking funding up to $1,000,000 to Scale Operations, Purchase Equipment, Fund Inventory, Increase Marketing or Hire Staff.
“By offering revenue sharing investments, founders are able to grow their businesses on their own terms," says Derek Manuge, co-founder of Corl. “To be recognized for helping businesses grow in a fair, sustainable way is a testament to the need we address and the issue we’re solving.”
Amid high energy, tech demos, laser-etched macarons, and celebration, Corl was called on stage and that moment reaffirms our belief in an equitable financing model that empowers entrepreneurs.
